Dog owners warned over poison in New Forest
Jan 10
A dog owner has warned people to be careful after his retriever became ill following suspected poisoning after a walk in the New Forest. Philip Wilkinson, who owns a black lab called Buster, says his pet was rushed to hospital and spent two nights on antibiotics and a drip before he could return home, the Bournemouth Echo reports.
While people can get dog insurance from providers like http://www.petsathome.com/petinsurance/doginsurance to pay for veterinary bills, it is obviously better for all parties to avoid dangerous spots altogether and dog walkers have been urged to be on their guard when taking their pets to the New Forest. Although he was unable to eat for a couple of days, dog lovers will be glad to hear that Buster is now feeling better.
“I don’t know if anyone had left anything deliberately or whether there are plants or fungi that are poisonous to dogs – I just wanted to warn people to keep an eye on their pets,” Mr Wilkinson told the newspaper. Alexander Campbell, of pet health charity PDSA, added that increasing numbers of pets are being treated for accidental poisonings, and said it is “vitally important” to keep any substances that could be harmful well out of reach.
